It is with regret that l advise that Retired Station Officer John RUSSELL (Reg. No. 1795) passed away, after a lengthy battle with illness, on Thursday 26 June.
John joined the MFB on 22 September 1961 and retired on 1 September 1989 after almost 28 years of dedicated service to the Brigade and the community.
After his initial training at FS 1 John transferred to the old FS 6 (Coburg) where he served until being promoted to Station Officer. As an SO he served at FS 43, FS 47, FS 42, FS 41, FS 52 and FS 44 from where he retired.
The MFB has a proud tradition of members following in the footsteps of their family and John’s son Station Officer Jason Russell (42 “B”) is yet another example of this.
A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at Kings Chapel, 130 Bellarine Highway, Newcomb on WEDNESDAY July 2 commencing at 1100 hours. The service will be followed by a private cremation.
