It is with regret that I advise all personnel that Retired Senior Firefighter Des LONGTON (Reg No 1621) passed away this morning.
Des joined the MFB on 11th December 1959 and retired on 19th December 1986 after 27 years dedicated service to the MFB and the community.
After his initial training at FS 1, Des went on to serve at FS 35 and the old FS 37 (St Kilda) before transferring to the Training College. At the Training College he worked on a number of Recruit courses before taking over the preparation and publishing of all the course materials, stations drills and the Firefighters Manual; a job he did until his retirement.
